Hi,
I’m new to Forex and just started working my way through babypips but I have a question that I can’t seem to find an answer to.
According to ibfx (not sure if url link is permissible here), margin level is defined as:
margin level = current equity in the account / current amount of margin in use
I’ve heard that brokers will make margin calls when margin levels are at 50%, sometimes 80%. I do not understand why this is the case.
I would think that as long as the equity in the account is equal to or greater than the amount required to open the position that the trade could be sustained.
I can see a margin call if a fluctuation of one pip would bring the equity below this amount but I do not see how a 50% margin affects this.
If someone could provide some example numbers perhaps it would help clear this one up for me.
Thanks,

“”Year 1) $10,000.00
Year 2) $20,000.00
Year 3) $40,000.00
Year 4) $80,000.00
Year 5) $160,000.00
Year 6) $320,000.00
Year 7) $640,000.00
Year
Year 9) $2,560,000.00″”
Nah that’s unrealistic. Something realistic would probably look like.
1) 10,000
2) 20,000
3) 30,000
4) 40,000
5) 50,000
6) 70,000
7) 90,000
120,000
If I started out w/ a million, I’d go for no more than 20% return a year.
I do invest my own money. However, according to the way I trade with my starting capital which is not that much, it’s hard to make a living out of Forex. Let’s just say 1 pip = 1 buck and I make 200 pip a week. 800 pip a month would = a very low paying job.

Well, apparently there is some element of “gambling” in the stock exchange/forex, but still such events are considered to depend on economical events…so fundamental analysis + technical should help you. I guess, the biggest mistake would be trading on margin/ or at least high such.
Speaking of the gambling itself, it’s really hard to predict the outcome of a random event, if not totally impossible, but still the gambler could make decisions based on static events, rather than just watching how her/his money are getting down, due to unfavorable trend…
Last, but not least, one can’t predict economical events such as a large bank buying huge amounts of EUR/USD, thus changing the trend.
I was even thinking on how to apply, paradoxes such as Parrondo or St. Petersburg in the stock trading, but the logic behind them leads me to negative conclusions.
my opinion?
Start with gambling -> forex on low margin -> stock indices(again low margin, if any).
Thanks!

It is about 3 months that I’m studying hardly forex. I have a good underestanding cause my previous job was “pragramming C#” and I left it to enter to trading world. but unfortunately I have not come up with a trading system that really works and make profits.
I’m in stress cause I should start my real trading as soon as possible. I prefer my positions be open for several days or more cause I don’t want new stresses. Please elaborate me your system that you have experience of working with it.
I am 37 and I want to open my real account with about 2,500 US $.
Please introduce me a trustable broker in advance cause this is second problem that has confused me.
European brokers are much preferred. I let you know my experience in future and will send you post cards to appreciate your useful answers.
You can really help me
